San Diego State University

2007 Master Plan Revision

Background

In 2007, San Diego State University (SDSU) embarked on a Campus Master Plan that would guide the physical growth and development of the campus over the next 20 years. This plan would help the university grow in a smart, planned manner consistent with its mission of teaching, research and community service. PPS was retained to coordinate the media, government and community relations leading up to and through the environmental review process.

Strategy

PPS’ efforts included working with a wide variety of local and regional organizations, including elected officials, local government, planning agencies, business and civic groups, area residents, students, environmental organizations and the media. PPS helped SDSU build a strong coalition of business, community and environmental supporters via extensive briefings and follow-up contact with reporters and editorial writers covering this story.

Results

The California State University Board of Trustees unanimously approved SDSU’s 2007 Campus Master Plan on November 14, 2007.
