Changing Lives, Changing Communities
Background
Public Policy Strategies began working with Community Catalysts of California (CCC) in March 2006. At the time, the organization was interested in expanding its local profile through a strategic branding effort and increased media outreach. Our public relations activities were primarily focused on supporting CCC in the following areas: marketing/branding, media relations, government relations, event coordination, affordable housing initiative and leadership development/recruitment
Strategy
PPS undertook a branding effort to create a new logo and tagline, “Changing Lives, Changing Communities.” With PPS’ design and editorial support, all new company collateral materials were developed including: logo, letterhead, Prospectus/Annual Report, Communiqué Newsletters, Operational Summary, COY invitation and program, and a complete content/format overhaul of the CCC and CCHA websites.
Next, PPS began a media outreach campaign, producing press releases on a semi-monthly basis to gain positive coverage for our client and their events. We expanded our media database, introduced new outreach tools, and continue to maintain contact with key reporters. PPS promotes and assists in coordinating numerous client events throughout the year including the annual Catalyst of the Year dinner and downtown mixers.
Finally, PPS strategized ways to increase our profile with elected officials and community leaders. A series of briefings were set up to promote Community Catalysts’ Affordable Housing Initiative, Veterans Housing Initiative and associated fundraising efforts. These meetings have helped to establish CCC as a credible authority on affordable, accessible housing in San Diego. CCC has since testified to the State Assembly Veteran’s Affairs Committees and successfully partnered with the City of San Diego to apply for federal appropriation funds through Congressman Filner’s office to support program services.
Results
Together, these ongoing activities have contributed to an effective and simplified branding campaign, facilitated relationships with elected officials and media, and have helped to raise Community Catalyst of California’s public profile in San Diego.
